Introducing L’Avenue: A State of the Art Skyscraper and Luxury Mall in Shanghai, China
Designed by Jun Aoki and delivered from schematic design to construction completion by the architectural firm of Leigh & Orange, L’Avenue is a state of the art skyscraper and luxury mall in Shanghai, China. This commercial development, twenty-eight stories tall with a ground floor spanning over 140,000 square meters (1.5 million square feet), is an eco-conscious project incorporating such environmentally sustainable features as recycled rain water, recycled construction waste, and water efficient plantings sustained by drip irrigation.
The irrigation system is dominated by a water-wise, solar-powered, smart wireless irrigation controller including advanced drip irrigation system technology from DIG Corporation, a company based in Vista, California.
The irrigation system was designed and supplied by DIG Corporation’s master distributor in Hong Kong and China, PMS Engineering, Ltd., which also provided the technical support for the project. The irrigation system was installed by Networld Co., Ltd., based in Shanghai.
DIG’s water-saving technologies were recommended and then aligned to coincide with the designer’s vision of a green luxury mall. The detailed specifications for the project included DIG’s LEIT 2 ET System, which is comprised of solar powered, wireless controllers and wireless weather stations. The system uses local microclimate evapotranspiration (ET) data received from the weather station, along with site information programmed from the handset, to calculate and adjust the daily irrigation schedule according to real time weather information for each controller and for each station independently.
The system designed for L’Avenue comprises twenty LEIT-2ET two-station, solar-powered, wireless smart controllers, two LEIT WWS wireless weather stations, and approximately 5,500 feet of .5 GPH (2 l/h) EXCEL PC CV green drip line incorporating built-in emitters with check valves every 12” (30 cm).
The system also depends on DIG’s LEIT-RC2ET wireless handsets to program, monitor, and adjust irrigation schedules for each zone
The DIG LEIT 2 ET system operates without batteries, using ambient light (solar) power to charge lead-free super capacitors. This makes it one of the most environmentally friendly irrigation control systems on the market.
DIG’s eco-friendly products contributed to L’Avenue being granted LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Gold status, which officially confirmed L’Avenue as a green building. DIG remains committed to protecting the environment and conserving water through its innovative products and technologies, across the globe.
